Erika Laremont is a partner in the Professional Liability and Casualty Sections.  She joined Thompson Coe in 2017, bringing 20+ years of litigation experience.

Erika’s practice is diverse and she provides professional liability litigation defense to attorneys, accountants, real estate agents, insurance agents, and home health agencies with breach of contract, DTPA and professional malpractice (including medical malpractice) claims.

She also handles personal injury defense to trucking companies, commercial businesses, apartment complexes, and industrial employers.


Background

Erika was born in Wichita Falls, Texas, and lived in several states due to her father’s military service, before settling in San Antonio, Texas.  She graduated summa cum laude from St. Mary’s University with a degree in Political Science. She then moved to Austin to attend the University of Texas School of Law.

Before joining Thompson Coe, Erika was an associate attorney at Brown McCarroll, LLP, and spent 9 years as an Assistant Attorney General with the Texas Attorney General’s General Litigation Division where she defended state universities, agencies, and officials’ lawsuits filed in state and federal courts dealing with various employment and constitutional claims.

Representative Experience

Summary judgment in favor of real estate broker in DTPA action.

Summary judgment in for commercial facility in premises liability involving subcontractor and worker’s compensation coverage.

Summary judgment for homeowner’s association and board members on breach of contract, DTPA, negligence, Texas Water Code, conspiracy and breach of fiduciary duty claims brought by home owner.

Summary judgment for property management company on breach of contract, DTPA, negligence, Texas Water Code and conspiracy claims brought by homeowner.

Summary judgment for law firm and individual attorneys in legal malpractice case.

Successful appeal to First Court of Appeals to affirm summary judgment for homeowner’s association and property management company
