Former Judge and Two Lateral Partners Join Thompson Coe

February 8, 2019 Press Release

Thompson Coe is pleased to announce the addition of three new partners to the firm: Ken Tapscott and Chuck Shiver in Dallas and Beth Bernstein in New Orleans.

The three partners bring with them esteemed and accomplished careers in the areas of personal injury/wrongful death, insurance litigation, bad faith, workers' compensation, transportation, toxic torts, fraud and professional malpractice, among others. Highlights of their practices:

Ken Tapscott served as Judge of Dallas County Court at Law #4 from 2007-2018, where he delivered 425+ cases to jury verdict and decided 1500+ non-jury trials, more than any other civil district or county court at law judge in Dallas County during that time period. A significant number of his opinions were affirmed by the Fifth District Court of Appeals.

Ken was consistently rated one of the best judges in Dallas County by the Dallas Bar Association for his temperament, impartiality, preparation, speed of decision-making, and knowledge of the law. His experience  on the bench is of great benefit to our clients, as he provides an honest assessment of their case and strong prosecution of any claim or defense that is needed.

Beth Bernstein has developed a reputation as one of the top attorneys in workers' compensation law in New Orleans, as supported by the peer honors she has received, including Super Lawyers Rising Star and New Orleans Magazine Top Lawyers. She is an integral piece of the firm's workers' comp practice and capabilities.

Chuck Shiver has considerable first-chair trial experience defending wrongful death and serious personal injury claims and has handled over 300 commercial trucking cases. As a seasoned veteran, Chuck is a very welcomed addition to the transportation group in Dallas.

"Each of our new partners is a top legal intellect who will be invaluable assets to the firm," said Shawn Phelan, Co-Chairman of Thompson Coe. "We are thrilled to have them."

More information regarding each of our new colleagues is set forth below. We are proud to welcome them to Thompson Coe and invite you to contact them to discuss your needs.
