Christopher W. Kaul is a partner in the New Orleans office of the firm. His practice focuses on insurance coverage and complex civil litigation, with an emphasis on casualty matters, professional liability, management liability, and excess monitoring. He regularly represents insurers, excess carriers, third-party administrators, and their insureds in high-exposure matters, including catastrophic personal injury claims, first-party property disputes, bad faith litigation, premises and products liability, and indemnity actions.
Chris has broad experience defending individuals, professionals, businesses, and public entities in state and federal courts throughout Louisiana. His professional and management liability practice includes the defense of insurance agents and brokers, accountants, actuaries, architects, engineers, medical professionals, coroners, healthcare facilities, directors, officers, and senior management. He also regularly represents municipalities, parish governments, and other public entities in a wide range of civil matters.
Chris works closely with claims professionals on early case assessment, exposure evaluation, litigation strategy, and resolution of complex loss scenarios. His excess monitoring practice emphasizes practical risk analysis, clear reporting, and disciplined oversight through trial and settlement, allowing insurers to make informed claims and reserving decisions.
In addition to insurer-retained matters, Chris represents businesses and organizations as outside litigation and risk-management counsel. He is a Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP/US) and advises clients on data privacy, cybersecurity, cyber liability insurance, and incident response, and has coordinated large-scale data breach responses for national companies in regulated industries.
Chris maintains an active litigation practice and has recent trial experience, including the successful defense of a national distribution company in a two-week jury trial. He approaches litigation with a focus on efficiency, credibility, and alignment with client business objectives.
