Thompson Coe Welcomes Four Attorneys to New Orleans Office

July 1, 2019 Press Release

Thompson Coe is pleased to announce the addition of four attorneys to the firm's New Orleans office: Partner, Matthew Popp; Of Counsel, Randolph Waits and John Emmett; Associate, Mark Hill. Paralegal Wendie Tyler will also be joining the firm.

Our new attorneys, formerly of the boutique firm Waits, Emmett & Popp, will expand Thompson Coe's maritime law, personal injury, insurance litigation, and commercial litigation practices with a focus on admiralty and marine. They have extensive experience defending collision cases, tower’s liability, cargo, property damage, and cases involving marine insurance and all cases involving general maritime law jurisdiction. As part of their maritime practice, the group defends all claims by maritime workers including seaman’s claims, longshoreman and harbor workers claims, and other claims related to maritime employment. In the last three years, the team has obtained a defense verdict in all of the Jones Act cases they have tried.

In addition to the defense of high-stakes maritime claims, our new attorneys bolster the firm's established and exceptional capabilities in the areas of pipeline construction, eminent domain, workers' compensation, bad faith, medical malpractice, products liability, and construction defect litigation.

Mark Clark, Administrative Partner of the New Orleans office, said, "Matt, John, and Randy are excellent lawyers who are well-known and widely respected in the maritime world. They bring tremendous skill and experience which will greatly benefit our clients and the firm’s growing presence in New Orleans. We couldn't be happier with their decision to join us."

Before Waits, Emmett & Popp, the three originating partners of the firm started their careers with the maritime firm of Emmett, Cobb, Waits & Kessenich, which was formed in 1977. The firm remained intact for over 25 years, and grew from a solo practice to a firm with over a dozen lawyers.

We are proud to welcome them to Thompson Coe and invite you to contact them to discuss your needs.
