Shelby Hall focuses her practice on civil appeals and original proceedings in Texas state and federal courts. Shelby maintains a diverse practice and has helped achieve favorable results in a wide variety of matters, including cases involving insurance, professional liability, personal injury, product liability, and property owners associations.

Shelby has a wide breadth of experience preparing appellate briefs, original proceedings, motions to dismiss, summary-judgment motions, jury charges, and post-judgement motions. Shelby has argued and won appeals involving a variety complex legal issues. Shelby routinely collaborates with trial counsel to assist in preserving error for appeal and briefing critical pre-trial and post-judgment motions.

A 2016 magna cum laude graduate of Texas Tech University School of Law, Shelby was a national and state advocacy champion and a member of the Texas Tech Law Review. Prior to graduation, Shelby was awarded the State Bar of Texas Appellate Section’s Award for Excellence in Appellate Advocacy. Shelby claimed the championship and won “Best Brief” honors in the 2016 National Moot Court Competition, which pits the finest law school advocates in the country against one another. Shelby is also a member of the prestigious National Order of the Barristers and the National Order of Scribes.

Representative Experience

Won appeal defending summary judgment win in a case involving a condominium owners association’s dispute with certain owners regarding operation of a rental pool.

Won mandamus relief from a trial court’s erroneous order compelling production of insurer’s irrelevant claims handling documents sought by plaintiff’s facially overbroad discovery requests.

Obtained mandamus relief in a significant discovery dispute before the Fourteenth Court of Appeals involving the production of settlement agreements before trial.

Won appeal and obtained reversal of the trial court’s order denying client’s motion to compel arbitration.

Argued and obtained an affirmance of a summary judgment granted for a title company that faced claims that the conveyance of several properties was invalid.

Obtained affirmance of a summary judgment granting a nonjudicial foreclosure in favor of landlord.

Won appeal obtaining affirmance of a summary judgment for an apartment complex in a premises liability case concerning a murder that occurred inside a resident’s apartment.

Obtained mandamus relief in a significant discovery dispute before the Fifth Court of Appeals involving a challenge to the trial court’s jurisdiction over an ad valorem tax dispute.

Won appeal and obtained affirmation of the trial court’s order granting client’s special appearance.

Won appeal defending summary judgment dismissing a hospital’s claims for breach of contract, money had and received, and tortious interference brought against ambulance dealer and repair company that purchased assets of another ambulance repair company (who the hospital alleged did not complete ambulance remounts that were paid for by the hospital prior to the execution of the asset purchase agreement).

Won appeal and obtained affirmance of a summary judgment dismissing claims against employer arising from an over-zealous bounty hunter.

Won appeal and obtained affirmance of a summary judgment arising from a slip and fall incident that concerned issues of default summary judgment and appeal of an associate judge’s order.

Successfully moved a trial court to set aside a $400,000 default judgment entered against nursing home facility.
