Mahak Merchant focuses her practice on civil litigation. She works with clients to understand the facts of a dispute, identify the key legal issues, and develop a strategy to move the case forward. Mahak is a strong researcher and writer who enjoys working through complicated legal and factual issues. She is detail-oriented and approaches each case by first making sure she understands the full picture. From there, she focuses on identifying the strongest arguments, anticipating potential issues, and presenting the client’s position clearly and persuasively.
Her experience includes assisting with the defense of governmental entities and officials in federal civil-rights litigation, including cases involving qualified immunity and constitutional claims; representing public-school entities in litigation involving Title IX and related statutory and constitutional claims; handling discovery and motion practice in matters involving governmental officials; and assisting with the defense of a municipal housing authority against discrimination, retaliation, and related claims.
Mahak understands that litigation can be complicated and unfamiliar to clients. She believes in being straightforward about the issues in a case and explaining not only what she recommends, but why. Her goal is to give clients practical advice that helps them make informed decisions throughout the litigation process.
