Christa Hykaway is an experienced civil litigator who has represented individuals and companies ranging from property owners, management companies, restaurant owners, general contractors, subcontractors, product manufacturers/sellers, trucking companies, United States sports associations, and nursing homes.

Her practice focuses on premises liability, products liability, automobile/trucking accidents, UM/UIM coverage, industrial oilfield accidents, sporting accidents, dram shop liability, and mass torts. Christa strives to provide her clients with a comprehensive investigation and evaluation of their cases to develop the best client-specific defense.

Christa also seeks to provide all her clients, small or big, with the work ethic she developed as an Olympic-level athlete.


Background

Christa Hykaway was born and raised in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, where she competed for her Province in gymnastics and for her Province and Country in diving. Between her time in the gymnasium and pool, she enjoyed hiking, camping, dirt biking, and skiing in the Canadian Rocky Mountains.

Christa was a collegiate diver, placing second and third on 3M at the SEC Swimming and Diving Championships, and competed twice at the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships. She was also selected as the Arkansas Coaches NCAA diver of the year in 1997 and 1999 and was on the SEC Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll for 1999-2000.

While in law school, she trained for the Olympics and placed second in 3M synchronized diving at the Canadian National Diving Championships.

Representative Experience

Obtained summary judgment based on deemed admissions for client event holder/sponsor in a premises liability case pending in Cherokee County, Texas.

Obtained summary judgment on third party plaintiff’s indemnity claim in Collin County.

Took deposition of Plaintiff’s accident reconstruction expert resulting in demand being decreased by $5 million.

Litigation counsel for leading provider of transportation insurance in a first party insurance claim, resulting in a defense verdict.

Litigation counsel for national pub in dram shop liability claims, resulting in favorable settlements.

Litigation counsel for operator of oil and gas well, resulting in favorable settlement.

Obtained summary judgment for premises owner for claims against it during the construction of a nuclear power plant in federal court.
