A Tribute to Sean Crowley

It is with great sadness that we announce our friend and partner, Sean Crowley, passed on August 19, 2021.

Sean was born on October 25, 1977 in Austin, Texas, though he was quick to specify “South Austin.” After obtaining his law degree from Texas Tech University School of Law in 2008, Sean spent his next 13 years practicing as a civil litigator.

Sean was first and foremost a husband and father, devoted to his family. He was also an avid music lover, Marvel movie apostle, and sports fan. Sean was well known for his quick wit, humility, and hard work. His natural story-telling ability not only kept friends and colleagues entertained, but translated seamlessly to the courtroom. Sean was adept at both captivating and connecting with his juries.

Sean joined Thompson Coe’s Austin office in 2010 and was elected partner in 2016. Sean defended clients in professional liability, products liability, and personal injury matters. While his innumerable professional achievements surpass the confines of this tribute, those who worked with him remember Sean as a skilled trial attorney who achieved tremendous results for his clients. Even during the battle with his fatal illness, Sean tried multiple cases – obtaining defense verdicts in each.

Sean was deeply respected by his clients and colleagues. He was also fiercely loyal to the Firm, grateful to work among friends. Sean took great pride in mentoring younger attorneys, zealously defending his clients, and abiding by the highest professional standards. His tenacious optimism and compassion for others – especially during the last few years – further attest to his strength of character and fortify his memory in all that had the pleasure of working with him.

“Our deep grief over the passing of Sean Crowley, an honored member of the Thompson Coe family, reflects the love we had and continue to have for him,” said Jeff Otto, Casualty Vice Chair. “We will mourn together for a season and then find encouragement recalling the memorable times and joyful laughter we shared with Sean.  He would not want us to ‘make a fuss’ over him. How could we not? His memory will bless us always.”

Sean was preceded in death by his father Michael and his mother Nancy. He is survived by his cherished wife Alicia “Ali,” his beloved children Ireland (21), Michael (15) and Collin (12), adoptive mother Beryl “Berry,” and sisters Lisa, Pamela, Jessica and Leslie.
