Biography

John Emmett's practice focuses on admiralty and maritime litigation, commercial litigation, vessel contracts and insurance coverage issues. John's aim is to be timely and responsive to the needs of his clients by offering honest advice regarding the dispute they find themselves involved in. When a trial is necessary, John possesses the skills required to put on a vigorous presentation for his client.

  • Representation of major inland towing company in allision between foreign flag vessel and two refinery facilities allegedly causing damages in excess of $50 million
  • Representation of cruise line in sinking and total loss of passenger vessel and its 31 crewmembers in Hurricane Mitch
  • Representation of excess insurance carrier for target defendant in False Claims Act suit by United States alleging over $300 million in damages
  • Representation of tug owner and its insurer in connection with barge which allegedly breached a levee during Hurricane Katrina causing flooding of New Orleans’ Ninth Ward
  • Representation of plaintiffs in Rule 10(b)(5) suit against A List Hollywood actor and his partners in connection with BP Oil Spill
  • Representation of foreign vessel owner and P&I Club in connection with catastrophic injuries sustained by a foreign seaman who was not given medical treatment until nine days after his 30’ fall to the bottom of a cargo hold
  • Representation of towing company in connection with collision between a barge and an ocean-going ship which caused a $300 million oil spill in the Mississippi River at New Orleans
  • Representation of ocean-going ship in connection with sinking of supply vessel causing multiple deaths
  • Representation of lift boat owner in connection with neck fracture sustained by a crewmember  due to a defective product installed aboard the vessel
