FORWARD Women

Thompson Coe FORWARD was created to foster an environment that actively recruits, promotes, and retains women attorneys. We know that a supportive and inclusive environment that values the unique perspectives that women bring helps achieve our firm goals and diversity initiatives.
FORWARD is focused on professional development, networking, mentorship, and increasing leadership opportunities for our women attorneys at all stages of their career.

Recruitment & Retention
Law School: We support women’s groups on campuses and actively recruit women through our summer clerk program with a diverse hiring team.
Associates: We provide opportunities from the earliest stages of their careers to take on challenging, meaningful, and substantive legal matters. Our internally run Associate School ensures equal advancement opportunities.
Laterals: From professional development to mentoring, we foster the growth and advancement of our gender and ethnically diverse attorneys.

The mission of FORWARD is to foster a robust, supportive, and inclusive network for the women of Thompson Coe, with a focus on retention, development, and advancement of our women lawyers.
Professional Development
We are committed to providing a culture where our women attorneys will thrive and develop the skills they need for continued success. We offer opportunities to both mentor and learn from other attorneys in our firm.
Alternative Schedules
Since the 1990s, our firm has offered alternative part-time arrangements for attorneys who want to adjust their work hours to accommodate family responsibilities. This has allowed the firm to retain top talent while providing the flexibility they need at different stages of their lives. These attorneys have continued to develop their careers while working reduced hours, and many have returned to full-time practice once their family obligations have changed. We recognize that these alternative arrangements are valuable to both the firm and the attorneys involved.
While we may all share important qualities – intelligence, creativity, and a strong work ethic – it is important to create spaces and opportunities that celebrate our unique experiences.
