Thompson, Coe, Cousins & Irons was named among the most active law firms for insurance litigation over the past three years, according to LexMachina’s 2021 Insurance Report. Other firms identified in the report include Butler Weihmuller Katz Craig LLP, Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP, Lewis Brisbois Bisgaard & Smith LLP, and Nielsen & Treas LLC. Except for Lewis Brisbois, the other firms had many appearances throughout the Gulf Coast.

The report defines “insurance” cases as those in which an insurer or policyholder is litigating one or more claims arising out of an insurance policy. The insurance case-type categories analyzed were: Auto Insurance, Uninsured Motorist/Underinsured Motorist (UM/UIM), Business Liability, Business Interruption, Life Insurance, Hurricane Related, and Homeowners Insurance.

The report looks back and analyzes law firm activity in 15 practice areas and from 2018 to 2020. Due to the unprecedented disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, it breaks down cases filed because of the virus.
