Trial Team Parachutes In Two Days Before Trial and Secures Complete Defense Verdict
May 7, 2026
Partners Daniel Buechler, Maria Fernandez-Sanchez, and Derek Bauman, and associate Elia Wilson secured a complete defense verdict following a two-day jury trial involving a commercial real estate dispute. The Thompson Coe trial team was retained two days prior to trial.
Commercial Real Estate Dispute Escalates
The case involved a challenging and longstanding commercial real estate dispute between our clients (a property management company, ownership association, and individual board members) and a law firm tenant, who tried to avoid paying rent and other contractually obligated fees over the years.
Prior to Thompson Coe stepping in as counsel two days before the trial, POAFOC and its directors were facing claims of fraud, negligent misrepresentation, and tortious interference with prospective business relations. Our trial team immediately streamlined and dismissed a majority of the claims and parties through pre-trial motion practice. They defended POAFOC and the remaining director before the jury.
After an effective closing, the jury came back with a verdict completely in favor of our clients, awarding them what they were seeking under the contract and rejecting the counterclaims and fees sought by the tenant.
