The Best Lawyers in America has recognized Thomas Culpepper, Michael Brooks, and Thomas Benedict as Lawyer of the Year honorees in the 2026 edition for Professional Malpractice – Defendants and Product Liability Litigation – Defendants.

Thomas Culpepper serves as Thompson Coe General Counsel in the Dallas office, where he supports the Firm’s strategic planning and regulatory compliance.
His practice is focused on professional liability defense, commercial disputes, and insurance coverage disputes. He has resolved hundreds of cases outside of trial, and he has tried over 20 cases to verdict. He is committed to helping clients reach the best possible resolution to their disputes whether it be through trial, arbitration or settlement. Tom represents attorneys, insurance agents, insurers, real estate brokers, commercial property owners, accountants, third party administrators, officers and directors, and other professionals throughout Texas. He also guides professionals through grievance proceedings.
Michael Brooks is the Partner-in-Charge of the recently opened Denver office.
His practice is focused on trial and appellate litigation in insurance bad faith defense, product liability, mass torts, insurance coverage, construction defects, complex coverage, and extra-contractual litigation arising out of first- and third-party claims in Colorado and nationally. He is experienced in complex civil litigation on the trial and appellate levels, particularly in product liability and insurance cases. He has prepared summary judgment motions and motions regarding the admissibility of expert testimony for several clients involved in toxic tort cases nationwide.
Thomas Benedict is a trial lawyer in our Hawaii office, who handles high-stakes cases involving commercial disputes, mass torts, unfair and deceptive trade claims, product liability, and personal injury. Over his 35-year career, he has obtained jury verdicts in favor of both plaintiffs and defendants.
He created a new Hawaii case law through his appellate work, which is regularly cited in personal injury litigation today.
