Thompson Coe was recently ranked among the top ten firms sized 150-299 in Law360's 2018 Best Law Firms For Female Attorneys.

According to Law 360’s 2018 Glass Ceiling Report, “women make up just over 35 percent of all attorneys surveyed, meaning that men still constitute almost two-thirds of private practice.”

"Law360’s data suggests that having a female leader sets an example for younger associates that they have a future and a path at the firm.  In fact, the 2018 Glass Ceiling Report found that the 43 firms with women in a leadership role averaged a better representation of female attorneys across the firm”, said the article.

Thompson Coe's 2017 female figures came in at 21% equity partners, 30% contract partners and 50% nonpartners, putting us among 17% of firms surveyed with 40% or more female representation overall. Law 360 surveyed more than 300 U.S. firms, and the 62 law firms recognized are distinguished for “outpacing their peers — breaking down barriers and forging a path to a more diverse working environment.”

In May, Thompson Coe was also ranked in The American Lawyer Diversity Scorecard (see PDF below) among the top 45 Am Law 200 and NLJ 250 firms. The firm climbed to 31 from 38 in 2018, which is a reflection of the firm's steadfast commitment to hire, develop and retain diverse professionals. Thompson Coe was also recognized as having the 2nd highest percentage of African-American attorneys in the same poll. However, according to ALM, "there was no change in the total percentage of African-American attorneys across all levels. In 2016, as was the case in 2015, African-Americans comprised only 3.0 percent of Big Law attorneys: 3.9 percent of nonpartners and 1.9 percent of partners." At 7.5%, Thompson Coe more than doubled the Big Law average.

"Law firm diversity is receiving considerable attention from clients, in-house counsel, and the media in an effort to transform the legal landscape in a direction that better resembles our community," said George Arnold, Thompson Coe's Diversity Chairman. "Diversity is an area that we have had a longstanding commitment to and we expect our continued efforts at Thompson Coe will inspire even further progress."
