Matt’s practice focuses primarily on defending and counseling employers in areas of labor and employment law, including Title VII, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), and other federal and state laws.  Matt also represents employers in other civil matters, such as commercial disputes.

Matt has litigated matters involving claims under Title VII, the ADA, the FMLA, the FLSA, and related Texas state employment laws.  Matt has also represented and advised clients regarding charges of discrimination filed with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC).  Matt has extensive experience drafting employment agreements, employee confidentiality agreements, non-compete and nonsolicitation agreements, separation agreements, employer handbooks, employer policies, and other documents for employers.  Matt has counseled clients through difficult employment issues including terminations, mass layoffs, management of FMLA and disability leave, FLSA overtime classification, employee background checks, implementing restrictive covenant agreements, and wage garnishment.

Prior to joining Thomspon Coe, Matt practiced employment law at a large law firm based in Houston, Texas.

Representative Experience

  • Litigated to favorable settlement in ADA discrimination and retaliation lawsuit;
  • Assisted with arbitration in ADA failure to accommodate lawsuit for Fortune 500 client;
  • Obtained favorable settlements in multiple matters involving EEOC charges before the filing of a lawsuit.
