Thompson Coe was recently ranked among the top ten firms sized 150-299 in Law360's Best Law Firms For Female Attorneys.
According to Law360’s 2017 Glass Ceiling Report, "women make up around one-third of the attorneys in private legal practice, a number that has stayed largely static over the past four years. Among the law firms surveyed, just under 45 percent of nonpartners and 23 percent of partners identified as female."
"But the firms on this list have bucked the trend. With an aggregate workforce that is over 40 percent female, the firms on this list are outpacing their peers in breaking down the old boys’ club and moving the industry toward a more inclusive status quo," said the article.
Thompson Coe's 2016 female figures came in at 33% equity partners, 35% contract partners and 50% nonpartners, putting us among 17% of firms surveyed with 40% or more female representation overall.
This is the third time in 2017 Thompson Coe has been recognized on a national scale for its diversity initiatives. Earlier this month, The National Law Journal released the results of their 2017 Women in Law Scorecard
, which ranked Thompson Coe 12th among 261 U.S.
firms for its relatively high percentage of women lawyers.
In May, Thompson Coe was ranked in The American Lawyer
Diversity Scorecard among the top 45 Am Law 200 and NLJ 250 firms. The firm climbed to 38 from 53 in 2015, which is a reflection of the firm's steadfast commitment to hire, develop and retain diverse professionals. Thompson Coe was also recognized as having the 2nd highest percentage of African-American attorneys in the same poll. According to ALM, "in 2016, as was the case in 2015, African-Americans comprised only 3.0 percent of Big Law attorneys: 3.9 percent of nonpartners and 1.9 percent of partners." At 7.5%, Thompson Coe more than doubled the Big Law average.
"Law firm diversity is receiving considerable attention from clients, in-house counsel, and the media in an effort to transform the legal landscape in a direction that better resembles our community," said George Arnold, Thompson Coe's Diversity Chairman. "Diversity is an area that we have had a longstanding commitment to and we expect our continued efforts at Thompson Coe will inspire even further progress."
