What impressed me about Thompson Coe was the Firm's long history and devotion to the representation of clients in the insurance industry, which provided a nice fit for me with colleagues that understood both the insurance business and my corporate and regulatory practice. After leaving a large firm where I had practiced for many years, and watching it change its focus from a "mid-market" firm to one that wanted to attract "Fortune 50" high-billable hour clients, I found that Thompson Coe provided an environment that allowed me to have the flexibility to charge competitive market rates for quality legal services, and the "bench strength" of knowledgeable colleagues to support that practice.

During my first year with the Firm, a client sent me a major transaction involving the sale of its life insurance division, a complex reinsurance and asset sale transaction valued above nine figures. We assembled a team that at one time had as many as 8 lawyers and a paralegal providing support for the transaction, and accomplished the sale in a timely and cost-efficient manner, and to the client's satisfaction. My colleagues in the Firm were not only uniquely qualified to work on the project, but took "ownership" of the matter from beginning to end. It served to confirm the impression I had before I joined the Firm: Thompson Coe was the right place for me and my practice, where I could promise my clients top quality service at very reasonable rates.

After dedicating approximately twenty years of my career to public service, first as a lawyer and subsequently as a state policymaker, I reached a point in my practice where I decided it was time to seek a new challenge. I wanted to go somewhere with a reputation for practicing law in a manner that I had always believed law was meant to be practiced, with integrity, critical thinking, and an emphasis on customer service. After considering various options I began talking to Thompson Coe about possibly joining the Firm.

I approached the interview process as an opportunity to not only convince the Firm's partners that I was someone they wanted working here but also an opportunity to determine if these were the types of people and lawyers that I wanted to work with. What I found was a group that seems to understand that law is not about egos and individual accolades but instead is about the practice of a skill for the benefit of your clients. In my short time with the Firm I've met knowledgeable attorneys who are not afraid to seek out help when needed but who are also available to help when I've had questions or need guidance in navigating my new arena. The supportive and collegial atmosphere has made my transition much easier than anticipated. I don't think I could have made a better choice about where to practice law.

While working at another law firm, I became familiar with Thompson Coe attorneys in cases where they were the opposing counsel. Thompson Coe attorneys were always easy to work with, and impressed me with the knowledge, skill, and professionalism exhibited by each. Therefore, I was ecstatic when approached with the opportunity to join their team. My experience at Thompson Coe has far exceeded my expectations. The Firm has allowed me to gain invaluable experience, while working in a collegial and relaxed atmosphere. Being surrounded by, and learning from, some of the best attorneys in the business has definitely enriched my legal career.
