Overview Jim Hordern’s practice concentrates on litigation and arbitration of complex commercial cases, including insurance coverage issues, fiduciary liability, commercial contracts, and collections.
He has handled numerous commercial general liability and property policy matters including litigation of several long-tail liability coverage and allocation cases for major national insurers and litigation of disputes concerning issuance of policies and alleged violations of the Texas Insurance Code and Deceptive Trade Practices Act.
He has also tried fiduciary litigation against a major bank and others related to their failure to accept responsibilities to a mentally incompetent ward. He has arbitrated claims involving contracts for construction of gas compressor plants and provision of supplies to offshore platforms. He has represented a national concern for over 15 years in collections on debts, including proceedings in bankruptcy court and foreclosures. |

- Counsel for property insurer on church's multi-million dollar Hurricane Ike claim for property damage, business interruption, and bad faith.
- Counsel for an insurance company concerning insurance coverage and allocation for decades of asbestos-liability exposure.
- Counsel for a major insurance company concerning insurance coverage and allocation for multi-year pollution liability.
- Represented a guardian of an estate of an incapacitated person in claims against the trustees and attorneys for breach of fiduciary duty.
- Represented an engineering firm in arbitration against its partner firm regarding project charges and expenses.
- Houston counsel for a national lending company collecting accounts and notes on real, commercial, and other types of property; conducting foreclosures; and handling bankruptcy matters.
